    We hired young Zack out of semi-retirement, making EdgePoint his second career after competitive swimming. His claims to fame include almost representing Canada at the 2012 Olympics – he missed out by a mere blink of an eye (2/100ths of a second, to be exact). He nailed it at the 2015 Pan Am Games, winning a silver medal. He’s also a champion eater, having listed junk food and a former daily trip to his family’s restaurant as personal interests. Zack earned a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Economics and Political Science from the University of Toronto and a Master of Finance from Queen's University, and spent time in inside sales at Mackenzie Investments. Impressive accomplishments aside, he can’t remember a song lyric to save his life. Zack has been an EdgePoint partner for 8.8 years.

  • Jason Liu

    Born in Victoria, B.C. and having lived for ten years in Singapore, it’s no surprise that Jason spent a large part of his younger years as a competitive sailor. Jason eventually left the high seas and found inland challenges both vertical (rock climbing) and horizontal (running races like the Boston Marathon). Before joining EdgePoint to lead private investments, he was a senior director at Tim Hortons and was the head of Media, and the head of Financial Planning & Analysis. Prior to that, Jason worked at Finepoint Capital in Boston, where he invested across the capital structure in public equities and credit, and also worked in private equity at Onex Partners in Toronto. He earned his B.Comm. from McMaster University. Jason has been an EdgePoint partner for 6.9 years.

  • Sydney Van Vierzen

    Syd is from a one-stoplight town inexplicably named Canada’s ultimate fishing destination despite being too small to sell fishing licenses or have a tackle shop. He whiled away his teen years dreaming of taking over his uncle’s pool business. Then that dream was crushed when long-time EdgePoint holding, Pool Corp., acquired it. Syd’s a Carleton University B.Comm grad and a CFA charterholder. He previously worked at CI Signature as an infrastructure analyst. Syd skis, cycles, reads and hones his green thumb. Now when he goes home he’s peppered with questions like: “how’s the Big Smoke?” and “are you a city-iot yet?” Syd has been an EdgePoint partner for 7.5 years.

  • Derek Skomorowski

    Derek wanted to be a cowboy. Makes sense, as he and his yet-unnamed biceps hail from right smack in the middle of the trapezoid that is Saskatchewan (Prince Albert for those not familiar with the geometry of the Prairies). An adventurous sort, young Derek was drawn to extreme sports like BMX and snowboarding and played anything that required a bat, ball, stick or broom. After graduating with a degree in Mechanical Engineering, Derek did a 180° and obtained an MBA from the Edwards School of Business at the University of Saskatchewan and is also a CFA charterholder. Derek came to the Big Smoke in May 2013 to work at Burgundy Asset Management. While there, he worked on U.S. small/mid-cap equities before becoming a bond guy on their fixed-income team. When he’s looking for some R&R, Derek goes south to a beach or heads home sweet home. Derek has been an EdgePoint partner for 8.7 years.

  • Tracey Chen

    Even though Ningbo in the Zhejiang Province of China has millions of people, it wasn’t big enough to contain Tracey’s love of adventure and exploring new places. She moved away to the even bigger city of Beijing and began her Bachelor of Finance at the Beijing Language and Culture University. During her third year, she decided she wanted to go international and moved to Finland. There she balanced studying with working at a Finnish high-tech start-up. Tracey worked at an impressive string of internships such as the Chinese-German joint venture Ningbo Preh-Joyson Automotive Electronics Co., Ltd. and The Nielsen Corp. After completing her Masters in Finance from McMaster University, Tracey came here to put her skills with numbers, Excel and ping-pong to good use! She is a CFA charterholder and a certified FRM. Tracey has been an EdgePoint partner for 9.2 years.
