The "season for sharing" list
Nov 26, 2020
Welcome to the 2020 edition of the EdgePoint gift list (also known as "after the year we've had, don't your friends and family deserve something nice" list). The seventh annual holiday gift guide is full of gift recommendations that we hope you can share with the people you probably didn't get to see much in person this year. We hope all of you stay safe during the holiday season.
Support local businesses
It's been a tough year for many people, including local businesses. We believe gift cards and presents from your local restaurant or a business always make a great gift, especially this year.
In addition to Amazon links, we also added links to Canadian retailers where possible. Although we couldn't add every local business that might carry them, we hope this inspires you to browse the websites of your local businesses this holiday season.
New this year – products made by businesses in our Portfolios
This year we're including some of our favourite products made by businesses we hold in our Portfolios. These are NOT recommendations to buy the stock themselves.
EdgePoint's 2020 gift ideas by category:
We've also added two new pieces of EdgePoint swag! As always, all the profits go towards lowering investors’ fees and (all else being equal) increase our investors’ future returns, so you can shop guilt-free:
Help get to your Point B by keeping yourself and those around you safe with an EdgePoint mask. They're handmade, adjustable, incredibly comfortable and have a filter pocket.
A soft cotton long-sleeved shirt for those willing to look different. Written on the back: "The willingness to look wrong in the short term so you can be right in the long term".
Charge your phone without having to look for an outlet. Perfect for when you’re on-the-go.
Try this ultra-slim and portable monitor with a built-in stand that requires only one plug for power (into your laptop/desktop). You can move around and not feel bounded by traditional heavy-powered monitors.
Are you busy working from home and finding it hard to keep an eye on your roving pup? Tired of dropping everything again to see what he's barking at? The Furbo dog camera is a two-way audio, treat-tossing pet camera that will allow you to watch and toss treats to your pet remotely from your phone! A great gift for pet lovers, and especially for the pets themselves. Shopping tip: Always goes on sale on Amazon Prime Day and Black Friday.
Option for you and/or kids to watch movies outdoors while social distancing.
Control yours lights, fans, heating devices or any electrical item from anywhere in the world with your smartphone! You can also program any schedule you want as well.
Lets you talk or FaceTime anyone hands-free while doing something else. Very practical.
It allows me to see the world while staying put. It also lets me stay in touch with my nieces and nephews while social distancing. It's a really cool thing to have!
Great for video enthusiasts who are just beginning to experiment with drones. No license needed, smooth and decent quality videos and, most importantly, three batteries so that you can capture hours of video.
Bend the legs to use on uneven grounds or mount it by wrapping the legs around a pole. Essential for family photos so you can be in front of the camera instead of behind it. Holds up to 11 pounds, great for mirrorless cameras or DSLRs.
Since Apple doesn’t provide you with charging cables anymore, you may as well just buy this.
A fun way to keep your cables safe.

Makes for an entertaining Saturday night. Great for all ages, easy to understand, fun to play with family or friends. Best to buy the party pack so you can incorporate up to 12 players, but 3-to-4 is great too.
I’m getting a copy for every teenager and young adult on my list.
A very entertaining book about a football league that tried to take on the NFL.
A great way to experience an escape room without leaving your home. Subscriptions available!
Foster binge reading!
Phoebe Bridgers’ Punisher was hands down one of the best albums released in 2020...
…and pair it with a guitar so you can learn all the songs!
Good for the Lego fans in your life (or anyone with the time on their hands) to put together over 9,000 pieces of Lego, which would be Lego’s the biggest set ever.
If one can peel themselves away from those shiny little screens for more Victorian moments, a good book can still enthral. Applebaum is better known for her extraordinary account of the Gulags, also highly recommended. The allure of authoritarianism and nationalism continues apace today and Applebaum explains why.

These boots are a must-have to get you through the Canadian winter chills. Pajar makes boots for both men and women and their grip on ice is amazing.
Are your white sneakers dirty? Do you have salt stains on your Uggs from walking over to get your pumpkin spice latte? An incredible shoe cleaner that actually works.

For your kids
Good starter scooter for any toddler. They’ll be buzzing around the ‘hood in no time.
Great way to get your kid on a bike and ready to ride.
Great for newborns and new parents trying to fit in some zzz.

Loads of sensory fun for kids, the sand doesn’t dry out and can be molded into shapes to let their imagination fly.
I’d never heard of these but my nieces (ages 3 to 6) in Ireland are obsessed with them. I have to buy five here in Canada because they’re so hard to get back home.
Remember Laser Quest? You can have the same experience at home. Nerf’s Laser Ops is fun for all ages, minimizes screen time and lets you have a family battle royale.

Health & beauty
A limited edition make-up collection for the 2020 holiday vault!
2020 is far from the "sunny vacation" type of year. This is THE product you need and the perfect gift for any woman. Just a couple drops in your daily moisturizing routine and you feel like you just landed back from Barbados!
A set of 10 hand creams in a variety of scents.
A deep-muscle massage that helps with recovery.
It’s breathable, comfortable, hypoallergenic and beneficial for the skin. Silk can protect your skin from ultraviolet rays all-day long.
I saw a fellow EdgePointer and I told her how young she was looking. Even from six feet away, all I could see were her eyes. She told me it was Shiseido’s Vital Perfection eye cream after only two days.
I can’t bring myself to spend this much on a hair dryer but I’m hoping someone else will do it for me. It’s a better investment than Lego.
I love these because they're comfortable, soft and beneficial for your skin and hair while sleeping. This seems like a gift you'd give to a special woman in your life, but my dad loves these too!

You’ll never cook a steak on a grill again.
I got my wife one of these and now she can’t drink coffee out of anything else. I got another coffee drinker the mug as a gift and they have become equally as passionate about it. And no, the company isn’t public, I’ve already looked.
Declutter your closet and add space by switching to these velvet slim hangers and watch your closet space expand.
Canadian-made 6-in-1 real wood table. Seat one for work-from-home by day or seat up to 12 people for dinner that night.
Perfect for someone who loves to entertain and reduces storage. An all-in-one cheese board and knife set.

Great cookbook for all those who like Thai cooking and even if you don’t, there are some really good other recipes.
Taste the difference between fresh and dried pasta. Although it requires a KitchenAid stand mixer, this attachment helps you make six different kinds of pasta, from spaghetti to macaroni. Rumour has it that if you make it yourself, pasta has no calories.
A pair of beautiful mugs that double as works of art.
A classy porcelain diffuser to help liven up your home with your favourite scents.
Work like a charm, I have them all over the trees at the cottage and when you walk by they light up. Fantastic!
The main reason I own one - relaxation. Diffusers are also used to prevent germs from spreading and to purify the air you breathe. A good reason to diffuse and avoid catching a bad flu.
Indoor/outdoor mats to keep your house free of water, snow, etc. They're available in several sizes and work incredibly well!
Make sure to have great hardware when you're slicing and dicing during the pandemic
This is my favourite vegan/plant-based cookbook. Great for anyone who loves to cook.

Sports & outdoors
Very convenient and keeps the rain and snow off your mat as you head to your class.
So small and so light you can hide it anywhere for your next hiking or, like me, your next bike adventure! It's ridiculously light! Any outdoor enthusiast will love this!
A durable and stylish way to get your firewood where you need it without making a mess everywhere.
Forget the bike trainer and get outside.
For the person who enjoys a good fire but not the smoke. This smoke-less firepit is discrete for city living, looks cool, keeps you warm and allows you to cook a meal.
Gyms are closed and this is a great way to stay active at home. The pull-up bar hooks into a doorframe, but can also be used on the ground for dips.
For the golfer in your life, a range finder to give you more accurate yardage without having to break the bank.
Bring the party on the water!
GPS bike computer for your friends that got really into biking during this year. It’s easy to use, works on any bike and tracks your ride to help you get faster next year!
Love cycling, but too cold outside and the gyms are closed? Cheaper alternative to Peloton, ride your own bike and put on a Youtube cycling simulator for a fraction the price!

Besides being useful for hot liquids, it can be used for oatmeal or to keep beverages cold.
Make sure you drink enough water with a bottle that tracks how much you drink. Syncs to an app and glows to remind you when it's time to drink more.
Make espresso shots without needing fancy (and expensive) machinery!

Made by businesses in our Portfolios
Probably the best chain fried chicken sandwich in Canada. Tested and confirmed by multiple EdgePointers this year.
Restaurant Brands International, Inc.
Note: Restaurant Brands International, Inc. is owned in at least one of Cymbria and/or the EdgePoint Portfolios. This is not a recommendation to purchase the company.
The 2020 model was an IIHS Top Safety Pick+ and several EdgePointers swear by their Subarus.
And if you’re near Grande Prairie, Alberta, you can get it from an Auto Canada-owned dealership.
(If you’re interested in another make, there are 49 other AutoCanada dealerships that sell 21 other brands across the country.)
Note: Subaru Corp. and AutoCanada are owned in at least one of Cymbria and/or the EdgePoint Portfolios. This is not a recommendation to purchase the company.
Assuming you aren’t in the market for a one-of-a-kind, Cartier-designed La Peregrina necklace once owned by Elizabeth Taylor, you could show your commitment to your partner with the iconic Cartier Love bracelet or ring. The bracelet can only be removed by the included screwdriver.
Compagnie Financière Richemont SA
Note: Compagnie Financière Richemont SA is owned in at least one of Cymbria and/or the EdgePoint Portfolios. This is not a recommendation to purchase the company.
Not everyone can get high-speed Internet access, especially people outside of urban or suburban areas. Xplornet uses EchoStar’s satellites to get faster Internet to remote parts of Canada.
Note: Echostar Corp. is owned in at least one of Cymbria and/or the EdgePoint Portfolios. This is not a recommendation to purchase the company.
Although gatherings are more restricted this year, that doesn’t mean that certain unwanted guests won’t be in your home. For those in the Greater Toronto Area, give yourself the gift of a pest-free household.
HomePro Pest Control Inc.
Note: HomePro Pest Control Inc. is owned in at least one of Cymbria and/or the EdgePoint Portfolios. This is not a recommendation to purchase the company.
For the person who has everything, a piece of Canadian (and outer space) history!
Note: MDA Corp. is owned in at least one of Cymbria and/or the EdgePoint Portfolios. This is not a recommendation to purchase the company.
Note: This probably isn’t for sale…
It's easy to get overwhelmed by their diverse product line, but fortunately EdgePointers put their money where their make-up is and tested a lot of products. Here are some of the recommendations:
Ultimune - Shiseido's #1 seller. It helps to strengthen and protect the skin
- White Lucent - Skin brightener, helps with sun spots, brown spots, etc.
- Benefiance - Who doesn’t want anti-aging, anti-wrinkle, teenage skin for life?!
- Essential Energy - moisturizer that's a safe, no-fail gift
- Hanatsubaki Hake Polishing Face Brush - Works with different types of face makeup. It smooths and polishes the makeup, so it looks natural, as opposed to looking like spackle
- Daiya Fude Face Duo - It’s award winning, and multi functional due to it’s dual tip
- Cleaning massage brush - A manual cleaning brush that will last a long time. Great for sensitive skin types
- Eyelash curler - An award winning eyelash curler for years and years. Handy for those who do not wear makeup, but want a little something to open up their eyes. (And no, – it doesn’t hurt)
Shiseido Co., Ltd.
Note: Shiseido Co., Ltd. is owned in at least one of Cymbria and/or the EdgePoint Portfolios. This is not a recommendation to purchase the company.
