The EdgePoint zebra

June 10, 2015

We include a zebra at bottom of our printed material because we can’t talk enough about our low-cost structure. What’s that got to do with zebras? As we like to say, nothing in this world is completely black & white except zebras and anything we print because that keeps costs low. Ultimately, the less we spend, the higher your returns.

Keeping an unrelenting focus on keeping our expenses down means paying attention to little things, colour printing being one of them. We sweat the small stuff knowing every bit of savings makes a difference to our investors’ bottom line. This includes flying coach and scooping as many free pens from conferences as will fit into our pockets.

Know what you’re paying

As an investor, you should be just as cost conscious as we are. The impact of even small fee reductions can be dramatic, running into the hundreds of thousands of dollars over the long term.

Soon, you’ll have another way to stay on top of investment fees. New regulatory reforms scheduled to come into effect in July 2016 will disclose – in black & white – what you’re paying in sales commissions and for administrative services. This will go a long way toward helping you to better evaluate performance and what you’re getting for the money you’re spending.
