Derek wanted to be a cowboy. Makes sense, as he and his yet-unnamed biceps hail from right smack in the middle of the trapezoid that is Saskatchewan (Prince Albert for those not familiar with the geometry of the Prairies). An adventurous sort, young Derek was drawn to extreme sports like BMX and snowboarding and played anything that required a bat, ball, stick or broom. After graduating with a degree in Mechanical Engineering, Derek did a 180° and obtained an MBA from the Edwards School of Business at the University of Saskatchewan and is also a CFA charterholder. Derek came to the Big Smoke in May 2013 to work at Burgundy Asset Management. While there, he worked on U.S. small/mid-cap equities before becoming a bond guy on their fixed-income team. When he’s looking for some R&R, Derek goes south to a beach or heads home sweet home. Derek has been an EdgePoint partner for 8.7 years.

You’d literally have to search high and low to find something that scares Alex – he has fears of both flying and bodies of water where he can’t see the bottom. However, he’s never let these things stop him as he’s managed to travel to Europe several times with his family. Hockey is a big part of Alex’s life since he never misses a Leafs game and played ever since he was a kid. He admits that he plays purely for the love of the game since his passion for it outweighs his actual coordination level. Prior to joining EdgePoint, Alex worked as an investment analyst at CI Investments Inc. He earned both a BBA in Finance and a BA in Financial Mathematics from Wilfrid Laurier University. Syd is from a one-stoplight town inexplicably named Canada’s ultimate fishing destination despite being too small to sell fishing licenses or have a tackle shop. He whiled away his teen years dreaming of taking over his uncle’s pool business. Then that dream was crushed when long-time EdgePoint holding, Pool Corp., acquired it. Syd’s a Carleton University B.Comm grad and a CFA charterholder. He previously worked at CI Signature as an infrastructure analyst. Syd skis, cycles, reads and hones his green thumb. Too cool for summer camp, as a teenager George worked at a Greek restaurant in the financial district. Less than 10 years later he found himself in a much different role just a few floors above, as an associate in debt capital markets at CIBC. Previously, he was a global markets analyst at HSBC.
